HumAngle Calls For Applications to Advancing Peace & Security Through Journalism Workshop

HumAngle Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its project Advancing Peace and Security Through Journalism with support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). 

With the aim of enhancing the capacity of journalists in the use of technology and other innovative approaches to promote peace-building, accountability, risk mitigation, and good governance, the training will help selected professionals to bolster their capacity in asset-based techniques of reporting, use of technology-assisted solutions and community-centric approaches for sustainable and independent journalism.

The training sessions will cover areas such as: 

• Asset-based framing and solutions reporting

• Embedding emerging technologies in news reportage (e.g., AI, VR, interactive storytelling, GIS/OSINT tools)

• Conflict-sensitive reporting and countering violent extremism

• Sustainability measures for newsroom operations

• Human-centered storytelling

• Accountability journalism and investigative reporting

• Security risk assessment and more

Who can apply?

All journalists who:

• Are attached to a newsroom  

• Are aged between 21 and 40

• Are resident in Nigeria

• Have at least 3 years of proven experience in impactful journalism

Expectations of the Participants

• Commit to a 3-day in-person training in the FCT.

• Share articles, reports or stories produced using techniques acquired during the training

• Conduct a step down training at the organisation of employment.

• Commit to participate in at least 2 post-training debriefing sessions (virtual)
