The Accountability Fellowship is a 6-Month fellowship for young persons from Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, commonly referred to as BAY states. The fellowship started in June 2022, has completed 4 cohorts, as at November, 2024.
The aim of the Fellowship is to harness the power of local actors to engage in storytelling, research and advocacy related to the insurgency in the Northeast. Following a 3-day in-person training in the FCT, the fellows return to their respective locations to carry out their projects while receiving continuous support.
The Fellowship has graduated 37 persons from 4 Cohorts – 54% Females, 46% Males.
As of January, 2025, 92 hyperlocal stories (written and multimedia) have been published by the fellows. These reports cut across insecurity, accountability, environmental issues, development, sexual and gender-based violence, solutions reporting and humanitarian issues.
About 95% of these stories are focused on rural areas and towns outside the state capitals.
In 2024 alone, the Fellows reached over 1400 people in 17 communities, raising awareness on education, climate change and SGBV response.
