Call for Pitches: Solutions Reports on Peacebuilding

Under its Advancing Peace and Security through Journalism project, HumAngle Foundation invites journalists resident in Nigeria to submit pitches focused on peacebuilding.  We are interested in reports spotlighting  grassroot initiatives that use innovative or underreported approaches to building peace, conflict resolution, mediation, and maintaining social cohesion.

What we are looking for:

  • In-depth Reports: Stories that follow the four pillars of solutions reporting in a refreshing and deeply-researched manner. Think of the pillars not as a checklist but as an invitation to go deeper into the story.
  • The ‘Limitations’ pillar of solutions reporting is often interpreted within the context of the lack of resources/funding the solution is experiencing. We are looking for journalists who can interpret this pillar more critically to include shortcomings in an objective way.
  • Evidence: We cannot emphasise this enough— stories should show irrefutable proof and data that the solution is being implemented and has recorded some success, even if it is not perfect.
  • Human impact: Reports that highlight the experiences and voices of those reached by the solutions.
  • Local Insights: Stories that provide a deep understanding of the local context on conflict.
  • Originality and new insights: Stories that have received little coverage in the past.

Please note:

  • The stories can come in various formats: text, audiovisual, or interactive.
  • Female journalists are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Journalists with disabilities are welcome to apply.
  • Prior experience in solutions reporting and with a rigorous editorial process is an advantage.
  • Only successful applicants will be contacted. Applications that do not receive a response from us by August 31st, 2025 are unsuccessful.

Deadline: Rolling. (We will close the window for applications on July 8th, 2025, or once we receive enough quality proposals.)

We look forward to receiving your insightful and impactful pitches! You can direct questions to angela.umoru@humangle.org
